Professor Margot Kearns

Margot Kearns, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic

Professor Kearns is a registered nurse and midwife with 16 years clinical nursing experience, including 12 years in intensive care. In 1994 she completed a Bachelor of Science Honours degree and was awarded the University of Sydney Medal for Biochemistry. Following this Prof Kearns completed a PhD in molecular genetics then moved to post-doctoral researcher at the Children’s Medical Research Institute. She has taught undergraduate science and health students for over 20 years. Margot’s special interests have traditionally covered the areas of the clinical sciences and human genetics but in recent years have moved to teaching and learning and WIL.

In 2005 as Foundation Dean of Nursing on the Sydney Campus of Notre Dame she had a pivotal role in the development and establishment of the start-up campus. In 2008 she was appointed Pro Vice Chancellor Sydney and in 2011 was the first appointment to the national role of Pro Vice Chancellor Academic at Notre Dame. In 2017 she was appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, and has been Interim Head of Campus, Sydney since July 2017.
