  • Biography

    Michael has worked in a professional capacity as a director, actor, producer, playwright, dramaturg, script editor, arts advocate and educator in stage, screen and arts education in Australia. He is a graduate of Curtin University, with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in English, with Honours in Performance Studies, as well as being a graduate of the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) Acting Course. He has completed a Masters in film and television directing and screenwriting at the WA Screen Academy and has a PhD in Performing Arts from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA).

  • Professional affiliations

    Michael has been a board director for the Revelation International Film Festival since 2016, and has sat on the board of Barking Gecko Theatre Company and the Film and Television Institute (FTI) of WA as an elected member.

    Michael has been a proud Equity member since 2001, serving on the WA Equity committee (since 2002) and was Vice President of MEAA WA and Equity WA and has been an elected representative on the Equity National Performers Committee and the WA Arts Federation. He is currently an elected delegate of the MEAA/Equity National Performers Committee (2016-19) and sits on the National Equity Screen Committee (2018-19).

    Michael represented MEAA on the WA Arts Federation, and then the Chairs Committee of the WA Chamber of Arts and Culture (2010-13). He was Honorary Vice President of the Equity Actors’ Benevolent Guild. He is currently a member of the Directing and Actor chapters of AACTA/AFI.

    He was Australian Screen Directors Guild WA State representative. He has also served on the Screenwest Industry Association Committee and Courses Committee, as well as contributing to STAGES Script Development Funding Panel and on DCA Peer Assessment Panels. Michael was Director of STAGES, the WA Playwrights Consortium and sat on their Script Development Panelist Pool. In 2015, Michael was elected to the STAGES WA board until its closure in 2016.
