  • Advanced standing

Being acknowledged for your prior study may reduce the duration of a course and means that you can avoid duplicating your learning.
You may be eligible for Advanced Standing (exemption with or without credit) towards a programme offered by the University if you have undertaken previous learning that is relevant, current (completed within the previous 10 years), and meets the learning or competency outcomes of a course or programme offered by the University. Previous learning that satisfies these requirements might have been formal or informal.

The University applies the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as the basis for reviewing applications for Advanced Standing in Vocational Education and Training (VET) or Higher Education courses.

Further information about the application process, including access to an application form can be obtained from here.

Formal learning recognised for Advanced Standing

For the programmes offered by the School of Health Sciences, students have previously been successful in applying for Advanced Standing for course codes offered by this School based on providing evidence of successful completion of the following formal learning in the table below.

Please note: where 2 or more courses are listed next to an ND course code, all courses were required to obtain Advanced Standing.

    • Health Promotion Officer
    • Adventure Tourism and Eco-Tourism Manager
    • Biochemist or Biomedical Scientist
    • Community Development Officer
    • Exercise and Sports Scientist
    • Fitness Coach or Personal Trainer
    • Health Consultant

The School of Health Sciences programs are also pathways to Graduate entry for Medicine, Dentistry and Physiotherapy.

  • Internships and Practicum experiences

A special feature of Notre Dame’s Health Sciences programs is the practicum and internship experiences required of students. These take place in a wide range of settings e.g. public and private hospitals, medical practice centres, community health centres, pathology laboratories, fitness centres, health promotion agencies, primary and secondary schools and voluntary service agencies. The practicum program in all degrees maximises student employment prospects and helps students to decide on career intentions well before graduation.

  • Accreditation

The Bachelor of Health and Physical Education Primary and Secondary degrees are accredited by the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA), based on a nationally agreed approach to accreditation with The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL). Graduates are qualified to register as Teachers with the TRBWA.
