  • Biography

    Dr Rupert Johnson is a National Deputy Head of the School of Law and Business at The University of Notre Dame Australia, Fremantle campus.  Dr Johnson is a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia and the High Court of Australia. Prior to joining the University in 2020, Dr Johnson was a member of academic staff at Edith Cowan University, where he also served as the School of Business and Law’s first Associate Dean of Law.

    Dr Johnson is a specialist subtitle author in real property law for the Australian law encyclopaedia The Laws of Australia published by Thomson Reuters. Dr Johnson’s doctoral thesis Private Property Rights and the State. A Study of Regard and Increasing Disregard in Western Australia: 1829-2016 was completed as part of his Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD) candidature at The University of Western Australia in 2017.

    Dr Johnson has enjoyed a long association with the Northern Suburbs Community Legal Centre (Inc) where he continues to serve as a board of management member.

    Dr Johnson has a particular interest in the relationship between the State and private property rights.

    Dr Johnson is presently contributing to a new text on real property law in Western Australia.
