  • Biography

    Professor Karen Clark-Burg is the National Head of School, Nursing and Midwifery, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing & Midwifery and Health Sciences, University of Notre Dame Australia.

    Karen is an experienced academic leader having held senior leadership roles as the Dean of the School of nursing and midwifery. Karen has worked as a senior nurse for many years in both public and private hospitals and held various senior management roles. She has extensive experience in national health regulation as a past member of the WA nursing and midwifery board and AHPRA and is currently a member of the registered nurse accreditation committee with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council. She has been awarded collaborative multidisciplinary research grants.

    Karen is a Certified Global Nurse Consultant, alumna of the Global nursing leadership institute, International Council of Nurses, Vice Chair of the Leadership communities of interest with the Australian College of Nursing, a member of the editorial board of the Australian journal of clinical education and the Australian journal of Perioperative nursing. She has presented at conferences nationally and internationally and published widely. Her research interests are leadership, global health, transformative curriculum design, perioperative nursing and learning and teaching innovations.

    She has a Master of Business Administration (Executive) and her PhD research study was on leadership in the nursing profession.

    Karen is currently supervising 7 Higher degree by research students and has supervised students to completion. Karen is part of a research team with partners from Sacred Heart University, Connecticut on a multinational study researching graduate nurses clinical leadership behaviors  in Australia, Ireland and the US. Karen also co-teaches in the Nursing Leadership and Management course to students from Australia, Ireland and America in Dingle, Ireland as part of a study abroad program.
