Welcome from the Dean

Sarah LoveProfessor Sarah Love

It is a privilege and a pleasure to welcome you, on behalf of our staff, to the School of Physiotherapy.

Our programs produce skilled physiotherapy clinicians and researchers. The emphasis on critical thinking and clinical reasoning will make you a work-ready graduate who can contribute meaningfully within the physiotherapy profession. Our School’s main program is the fully-accredited, four-year undergraduate degree in Physiotherapy – the Bachelor of Physiotherapy. This academic program provides a systematic educational experience designed to encourage active learning. The curriculum promotes acquisition of knowledge and skills and balances this with the clinical ability to apply these skills in the practice of physiotherapy. You will undertake extensive and early clinical training which will provide you with the practical skills and experiences necessary to facilitate an effective transition from study to work.

The world of health care is changing. Professional boundaries are evolving and status quo is no longer an option. Our staff are highly accessible and we offer small class sizes to provide individual attention and prepare you for future professional life. You will be supported and mentored every step of the way by professionals, teachers and experts in their fields, who know your name and care about your professional and personal growth.

The vision of the School and its staff is to graduate physiotherapists who are respected and sought after in public and private sectors, both nationally and internationally, and who have an acknowledged potential to be future leaders in our profession and in health care in general.”

We also offer the option of a Bachelor of Physiotherapy program with Honours and a double degree of Physiotherapy and Exercise & Sport Science. Each of these programs provide a curriculum that is fully accredited by the Australian Physiotherapy Council and allows registration as a physiotherapist through the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency (AHPRA).

The School of Physiotherapy also offers Graduate Certificates and Graduate Diplomas; Masters by Research and Masters by coursework; Professional Doctorates and a PhD program which allows students to develop and contribute new knowledge to assist the health care of our community. Having research and postgraduate programs within our School enables us to provide a rich undergraduate learning and teaching environment.

We pride ourselves on our values-based curriculum, on our strong clinical emphasis and especially on our ability to focus everything we do around you, the student. This gives you a more fulfilling university experience and, on graduation, ensures that you are a highly valued and internationally recognised physiotherapist, with the skills and ability to maintain your standards of practice and continue your professional growth.

If you are joining us as a new student, returning to complete your degree, or enrolling in a postgraduate degree, I most wholeheartedly welcome you, as my potential future colleague, to our School.
