  • Biography

After a successful career working in senior managerial marketing positions in the consumer goods, media, hospitality and agribusiness industries in Brazil, Dr Sakakibara decided that it was time to and share his years of experience with university students. This led him to Australia, where he undertook a Master’s degree, a PhD, and a Graduate Certificate in University Teaching. Jose's research is based on three primary areas: (1) Not-for-profit marketing, where his work explores individual donors’ attitudes and behaviour towards the fundraising efforts of not-for-profit organisations. The intended impact of his research in this area is to assist not-for-profit marketing practitioners and organisations to understand the behaviour of donors and become financially independent; (2) Scholarship of teaching and learning in higher education, where the focus of his work is business/marketing education. Dr Sakakibara's work strives to improve student performance and retention rates. He is particularly interested in work-integrated learning (WIL), cooperative learning (teamwork), and blended learning; and (3) Interactive marketing (digital marketing) and customer relationship management. Jose has fostered links between Notre Dame and the wider domestic and international research community through his involvement as Chair of Australia and New Zealand Third Sector Research (ANZTSR), the premier research network for the not-for-profit sector in Australia and New Zealand. ANZTSR publishes the peer-reviewed academic journal Third Sector Review (TSR) three times a year. The journal is included in the Excellence in Research in Australia (ERA) list.
