Welcome from the Dean
Professor Caroline Mansfield
It is my pleasure and privilege to welcome you to the School of Education, Sydney. Welcome to a community within a community where staff are both expert and highly accessible and small class sizes are fostered to promote individual attention. Along with the School of Education on our Fremantle Campus, we are part of a national College of Education at The University of Notre Dame Australia.
When you choose to study to become a teacher you are making a decision to enter a profession where you can truly say you are making a difference. You will contribute to the formation of our young people in a partnership with their parents and their communities. In a real sense you will be shaping the future and it will be a positive future for many, because it will be touched by your unique practical skills and knowledge, developed through an exciting and innovative degree.
The undergraduate teaching degrees at Notre Dame are recognised for their unique 32 weeks of practicum experience in the classroom, helping you to be as work-ready as possible. Practical experience complemented by sound theory means our graduates are highly sought after in government, Catholic and independent schools. Our graduate employment rate is simply outstanding. In the recent Quality Indicators for Learning & Teaching (QILT) survey by the Federal Government, the School of Education was #1 in Australia for Overall Quality of Educational Experience; Teaching Quality; Skills Development and Learner Engagement. The School was also #1 in WA for Student Support, Overall Student Satisfaction and Graduate Employment Rate.
The Core Curriculum with its emphasis on Philosophy, Ethics and Theology allows our graduates to fully appreciate the professional responsibilities of ethics and service to others. Join us in your own journey of learning and inspire others along the way.
