School of PHILOSOPHY & THEOLOGY

Challenge your worldview and tackle humanity’s fundamental questions with a degree from the School of Philosophy & Theology. Learn from expert academics in the Catholic Intellectual Tradition, which prioritises the communal quest for truth and the common good.

  • Consider the fundamental questions of human nature and reality, and explore possible answers in a supportive community of scholarship and learning.
  • Strengthen your capacity to think deeply and critically, give well-reasoned arguments, and communicate them clearly and respectfully – skills recognised across a variety of professions.

The School of Philosophy and Theology delivers the Core Curriculum (Logos Program), in which students explore the disciplines of philosophy, ethics and theology, exercise critical reasoning skills and engage in discussion and collaborative learning with students from different disciplines. The Philosophy degree prepares students for a wide variety of professions including teaching, public policy, international diplomacy and advocacy. The Theology degree is for students who wish to pursue personal and spiritual growth or their specific vocational and ministerial goals.

“I don’t get lost in classes here as I would at a bigger university. The teachers at Notre Dame are always available to help and the smaller classes mean that there is a more one-on-one focus, leaving me confident about my learning.”
