Early Offer Student Profile – Jacques Pacifique

Jacques has wanted to study nursing since he was a child. In Year 12, he applied to Notre Dame University through the Early Offer program and gained entry into a Bachelor of Nursing before he even sat his HSC exams. Now, in the final year of his undergraduate degree, Jacques looks forward to progressing to postgraduate studies in nursing management so he can one day work as a Nursing Unit Manager. Here Jacques shares more about his journey to Notre Dame through the Early Offer program and offers his best Early Offer application tips.

“I decided I wanted to study Nursing when I was 12 years old, after I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia and treated twice for it, once at 12 and then again at 17. The work the nurses did when I was going through treatment was truly amazing and inspired me to want to become a nurse – I feel that I can deliver the same level of empathy as a nurse that I received as a patient.

I chose to study at Notre Dame University because I had heard that the program here was one of the best nursing programs you can do at a University level in the state. The amount of practical required as part of the course caters to my hands-on learning style.

The Early Offer program really took away that awful stress I built up in Year 12 going into the HSC, plus it gave me the added confidence I needed in my exams, knowing I already had a place at university.

My best Early Offer application tips would be to write about you, flaunt your achievements and make your application as unique as you are. Notre Dame want to get to know you as a person.

My experience while studying at Notre Dame has been phenomenal. I have learnt so much and feel like I am prepared to take on the world of Nursing, and that’s credit to the excellent tutors and lecturers who have guided me so far.

The welcoming, tight-knit community feel at the University also allows you to branch out, make new friends and create exciting opportunities outside of your degree. It’s because of this I’ve had the chance to represent the University for sports at a national level, become the President of the Nursing Society in 2018 and now a Student Ambassador.”
