Welcome to Chaplaincy, Fremantle
The work of Chaplaincy is at the heart of the community at the University of Notre Dame Australia. Rooted in the Catholic faith and inspired by the great tradition of Catholic higher education, the office of Chaplaincy is committed to cultivating the faith of all Notre Dame students.
Do you want to:
- Learn more about God and the Catholic faith?
- Form long-lasting friendships?
- Deepen your relationship with God?
- Share your faith and what is going on in your life with other students?
- Discover your passions and calling in life through service?
There are many ways to connect including daily Mass, communal prayer, and Sacraments, bible studies, retreats, the choir, social events, and much more.
Our hope is that you will find in Chaplaincy a place to belong – that you would learn more about yourself and the God who made you and who loves you.

Pastoral care
In all that it does, the University seeks to provide an environment in which every student is encouraged and enabled to develop their own unique gifts and talents, to realise their God given potential, to realise their interconnectedness with all others and to seek to serve the common good.
Chaplaincy supports and assists in honouring significant moments in the lives of individuals or within the community whether they be issues of grief and loss like the loss of a loved one or a breakdown in a significant relationship, or also joyful occasions, such as preparing for marriage, the arrival of a child, graduation and the like.

Holy Spirit Choir
If you are interested in being involved with musical life at Notre Dame then the Holy Spirit choir would love to hear from you.
Our choir is mainly made up of Notre Dame students who come from across all faculties. Our singers have varying levels of singing experience but we all share a passion for music. We sing a wide range of repertoire from sacred to contemporary music.
Our rehearsals are held on campus during the week and are focused around improving each singer’s musicality and confidence, creating a strong homogenous choral sound and having fun making music together.
We also have the privilege of performing at some of the University’s main academic and community events including the mid-year Graduation ceremony and Assumption Mass.
Please contact us via chaplaincy.fremantle@nd.edu.au if you are interested or would like any further information.

Stations of the Cross
Good Friday, 10am
The Stations of the Cross have long been part of the devotional tradition of the Catholic Church. They are a re-enactment of the passion and suffering of Jesus Christ, telling the story of the final events leading up to His crucifixion and resurrection. In 1994, the late Mrs Dianne Wansbrough, one of the early Governors and a great supporter of the School of Nursing, commissioned well-known Australian artist, Peter Schipperheyn, to create a series of 14 Stations for the Fremantle Campus. Beginning and ending in the Holy Spirit Chapel, the series of bronze panels follow a path through the University’s two main courtyards
Every year on Good Friday, the University hosts a special Stations of the Cross service. Please see the Stations of the Cross poster or contact us via chaplaincy.fremantle@nd.edu.au if you would like any further information.
The story of the stations are included in the Public tours of the Fremantle Campus
which are held every Friday (excluding public holidays) at 11am throughout the year -

Exploring the Catholic Faith
The Catholic faith underpins the culture at Notre Dame. There are signs, symbols and language that visitors, students and staff may encounter in the course of campus life, which are not always easily understood. If you wish to know more about the Catholic faith, or are considering becoming a Catholic, please contact our Chaplain Fr Joe: joseph.laundy@nd.edu.au
