Sydney accommodation

The Sydney Campus is located on two sites: Broadway, which houses the Schools of Arts & Sciences, Business, Education, Law and Philosophy & Theology; and Darlinghurst which is home to the Schools of Medicine and Nursing. The University offers an accommodation information service to students looking for off-campus accommodation. The Prospective Students Office can provide guidance and advice, but students are responsible for making their own accommodation choices.

The Student Services Office runs an on-line student noticeboard service available through the student Learnit Blackboard Portal. This service permits our students to share notices with other students who may be searching for a flatmate or a flat to share.

Types of accommodation

  • Renting a house or an apartment

Local real estate agencies or private owners advise Notre Dame of available properties for rent in the City of Sydney district. Rental properties can be furnished, partly furnished or unfurnished. Landlords require rent to be paid in advance, plus a security bond equal to one month’s rent.

For information regarding the Residential Tenancies Act 2010 please refer to the NSW Department of Fair Trading website.

  • Renting a room

There are limited opportunities for this style of accommodation. Renting a room usually consists of a shared bathroom and communal areas of the house, with separate bedroom and study area. Expenses such as power, gas, telephone and excess water are normally paid in addition to rent.

For information regarding the Residential Tenancies Act 2010 please refer to the NSW Department of Fair Trading website.

  • Sharing with other students

Many students choose to share a house or apartment with other students. They advertise on the student noticeboards or with the Student Services Office. This arrangement involves having your own bedroom with shared communal areas (kitchen, laundry, living room and bathroom) as well as responsibilities for house-keeping. Share housing can offer inexpensive accommodation, the opportunity to share expenses and build friendships and a social network.

  • Guest houses, hotels and halls of residents

There are a number of high-quality guest houses and student hostels near the University which offer student accommodation. These include 94 Glebe Guest Houses, Big Hostel, Iglu Student Accommodation (three sites), Link2 Student Living, UniLodge and Urbanest. A number of residential halls, including St. John’s College, St. Andrew’s College, Sancta Sophia College and Warrane College will also consider applications from students at The University of Notre Dame Australia.
