Student education and events

All students are required to undertake cultural security and clinical yarning training. This will usually be scheduled as part of orientation on the student’s first Monday in the Kimberley.

Each week, Majarlin will facilitate interdisciplinary education or reflection or debrief or case study sessions. This usually occurs on Thursday afternoons. Students should check with the student co-coordinators on arrival to view the program of events during their stay. Students are strongly encouraged to attend these sessions whenever possible. It is the student’s responsibility to inform site managers of their whereabouts on all placement days.

Education may include such topics as:

  • Trauma-informed care
  • Stroke rehabilitation
  • Interdisciplinary care
  • Walking in a patient’s shoes
  • Managing Dementia
  • Working with patients with disability/autism/FASD
  • Chronic Pain management

A number of social and networking events are usually scheduled monthly. These may include BBQs, picnics on the beach, theatre or music events, film nights or cultural activities.

Majarlin also facilitates local clinician education. Students may be invited to present at appropriate events.
