Mass to mark National Domestic Violence Remembrance Day

30 April 2021

The University of Notre Dame Australia is holding a special Remembrance Mass at 12.35pm on Wednesday 5 May to mark National Domestic Violence Remembrance Day.

The month of May is Domestic Violence Prevention Month, and the University’s Chaplaincy team along with our Respect Officers have organised this Mass as a way to remember those who have lost their lives and all those who continue to be impacted by family and domestic violence.

The day also provides an opportunity to reflect, show solidarity, and consider how we can support people who are affected by family and domestic violence.

In Sydney, Mass will be on at 12.35pm (AEST) at St Benedict’s Church – located at 104 Broadway on Notre Dame’s Broadway Campus.

In Fremantle, Mass will be held at 12.35pm (AWST) at the Holy Spirit Chapel – located in the Bateman Courtyard of our Fremantle Campus on Mouat Street.

The University’s Respect Officers, Rachel Fuller and Charlotte Armstrong, have also organised a collection for agencies that provide support to those impacted by family and domestic violence. Throughout May we will be collecting women's winter pyjamas (all sizes, new condition only please) and cleaning products to support women and families living in emergency accommodation and also transitioning to safe housing.

Everything collected in Sydney will be donated to Mudgin-Gal Women's Place, an organisation that provides support for Aboriginal women and families. In Fremantle, donations will go to Zonta House Refuge Association, a specialist service that provides relief and support to women who have experienced, or are at risk of experiencing, family and domestic violence.

For more information about the collection locations on the Broadway and Darlinghurst Campuses in Sydney, NSW, email Sydney.respectofficer@nd.edu.au. For collection locations on our Fremantle Campus in WA, email fremantle.respectofficer@nd.edu.au.

Our Respect Officers are available for comment via the Media and Communications Office.
