Notre Dame professor participates in workshop on Australia-US Alliance

31 May 2021

Dr John Rees, Professor of Politics & International Relations at the University of Notre Dame Australia's School of Arts & Sciences and Research Associate at the Institute for Ethics & Society, was an invited participant in an Alliance Network Workshop on the US-Australia Alliance held this month.

Supported by the Embassy of The United States of America and the University of Western Australia Defence and Security Institute, Alliance Network Workshops are designed to bring together influential leaders currently specialising in regional security, economics or public policy to discuss the state of the Australia-US relationship and to explore new areas of knowledge.

Professor Rees has published research on Australian security, strategic culture, and the intersections of religion and foreign policy. His 2022 Fulbright scholarship in the United States begins comparative research on aspects of US and Australian nationalism and their impact on foreign policy.

The workshop was hosted by the United States Studies Centre (University of Sydney) with invited participants, including Professor Rees, joining the conversation via zoom due to COVID-19 capacity restrictions. Presenters included Professor Simon Jackman, United States Studies Centre, Dr Merriden Varrall, KPMG Australia, and Natasha Kassam, Director, Lowy Institute.
