  Students must complete four of the following courses:

  • Educating Children with Special Needs
  • Teaching Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Adaptive Education for the Inclusive Classroom
  • Behaviour Management and Social Skills Instruction
  • Children of High Ability: Gifted and Talented
  • Assistive Technology for Inclusion
  • Inclusion: Theory to Practice

  Students may commence their studies in the Summer Term (January), in Semester 1 (February) or April Intensive, in Winter Term (July), in Semester 2 (July) or October Intensive, subject to the availability of each course.

• Entry requirements

  To be eligible for admission applicants must be eligible for teacher registration in Australia.

• Learning outcomes

  Upon successful completion of The Graduate Certificate in Education (Special and Inclusive Education) graduates will be able to:

  1. Critically apply and reflect on advanced knowledge and understandings of specialised educational theory and practices within the domain of special and inclusive education
  2. Critically evaluate issues pertaining to the inclusion of students with special learning needs and associated pedagogical considerations in relation to significant recent developments in education
  3. Use cognitive, technical, and creative skills with initiative and a high level of personal autonomy and accountability to generate understanding of complex issues in special and inclusive education
  4. Use communication and technical skills to implement, justify and interpret critical issues in special and inclusive education in a variety of contexts.

• Career opportunities

  A Graduate Certificate in Education (Special and Inclusive Education) will provide qualified and experienced teachers with the skills and knowledge to become leaders in the field of inclusive education in Government, independent and Catholic primary and high schools. Careers include special education teachers and curriculum leaders.
