  • Why study this degree?

    The University of Notre Dame Australia’s Master of Leadership will give you the skills and capabilities to kick-start your career.  Available as a full-time program across 18 months (or the equivalent of part-time study), this postgraduate degree will provide you with the skills necessary to secure a leadership role in your chosen field, profession, or industry.

    You will complete nine compulsory courses focusing on leadership, strategy and a project and have the option of specialisation in business, liberal arts or three general elective courses.

    Each course is developed and offered by a team of respected leaders, combining a solid academic framework with strong commercial and industry experience in the degree program. This ensures that our postgraduate programs are academically sound, career-relevant, and contemporary with industry and modern Australian society. The Master of Leadership program is a unique blend of class tutorials, networking, mentoring, and interacting with guest lecturers.

  • Program summary

    Nine compulsory leadership courses:

    • Ethical Leadership for Today’s Organisations (or equivalent)
    • Organisations: Power, Leadership and Transformation
    • Leadership: Theory and Practice
    • Leading Change
    • Negotiation
    • Strategic Management and Planning
    • Strategic Workforce issues
    • Research Methods
    • Directed Research Project - or - Professional Project

    Two specialisation streams

    You may choose from the following:

    • Business – Economics for Managers
    • Business – Accounting for Managers
    • Business – Marketing
      or
    • Liberal Arts – Ethics
    • Liberal Arts – Philosophy
    • Liberal Arts – Theology
      or
    • Three general postgraduate electives as approved by the Dean.

  • Entry requirements

    • A Bachelor's degree from a recognised Australian or overseas university demonstrating the attainment of satisfactory grades plus a minimum of five years’ relevant experience in managerial and/or supervisory and/or leadership roles
    • OR a Graduate Diploma in a Business discipline
    • OR if the Dean is satisfied that there is sufficient background and/or experience in management/supervision and the applicant has the skills necessary to complete the program.

    Recognition of Prior Learning may be granted to selected applicants who have no formal tertiary qualifications but who have at least 10 years’ industry experience.

    Students who have completed a recognised postgraduate business degree (i.e. Graduate Certificate in Business) may be eligible to apply for advanced standing, depending on their undergraduate course and specialisation. To obtain advanced standing, students require a significant level of specialisation in a particular area. For further information go to Advanced Standing.

  • Learning outcomes

    Upon successful completion of the Master of Leadership graduates will be able to:

    1. Apply the management skills necessary to lead a team in the business community
    2. Apply the management skills necessary to plan and manage a financially sustainable business
    3. Create strategies to identify and seize business opportunities through the use of contemporary management theory
    4. Apply the skill gained in their area of specialisation in complex national and international scenarios
    5. Develop processes and practices needed to meet the regulatory environment under which a business operates
    6. Create community and customer engagement strategies
    7. Effectively analyse and manage ethical matters
    8. Employ critical reflection to encourage on-going learning to maintain and improve professional knowledge and skills
    9. Be able to think critically, reason and use judgment in preparation for of their professional practice; and
    10. Use evidence-based research in preparation of professional analysis and advice.
  • Real-world experience

    You will learn from our academics, who are leaders in their field. There are no practicum requirements for this program.

    FEE-HELP
    The FEE-HELP loan scheme assists eligible fee-paying students with the payment of all, or part, of their tuition fees, not including additional study costs such as accommodation or textbooks. Your FEE-HELP debt will be indexed each year in line with the Consumer Price Index.
