Midwifery graduate Postgraduate studies Graduate Diploma of Midwifery A popular postgraduate option is available for Registered Nurses who want to specialise in a rewarding field, supporting women through their childbirth journey. This 1.5 year course emphasises the close integration of evidence based theory, clinical practice and research. Students are exposed to many different clinical sites in urban and rural areas, large and small hospitals, and community and women’s health settings. Corrinne Poletti (Class of 2015), reflects on her experiences since completing the course: “During my time as a graduate midwife at King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH), I completed a six-month research internship, supervised by the KEMH Professor of Midwifery and the Midwifery Research Fellow. As a result of this opportunity, I currently work as a Research Assistant in the Department of Nursing and Midwifery Education and Research. This position has allowed me to participate in larger midwifery projects and contribute to research publications. My midwifery career has led me to experience almost every emotion possible and is simultaneously challenging and exhilarating. The cultural ethos of Notre Dame’s Midwifery course emphasised the importance of implementing care underpinned by a woman-centered philosophy and outlined the significance of holistic midwifery care. I have made it my passion to place childbearing women at the heart of the decision-making and to facilitate birth experiences that are empowering.” For enquiries about this course or other postgraduate opportunities, please visit notredame.edu.au/freo or call our Prospective Students Office on 9433 0533 to speak with one of our friendly advisors.
