Celebrating 20 Years of the School of Law, Fremantle More than 130 guests attended a Gala Event on the Fremantle Campus to celebrate the founding and flourishing of the School of Law over the past 20 years. Current and former judges, politicians, School of Law founders, past Deans and staff joined alumni and current students to mark the occasion in the Drill Hall. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Celia Hammond, who lectured at the School of Law for seven years, reflected on some key milestones. The first cohort of 82 students and five staff has now grown to an annual intake of approximately 110 students, 16 staff and a total of 1120 graduates over the 20 years. The Law School is the only School at Notre Dame Fremantle that remains in its original location. Notre Dame Governor and former Chancellor, The Honourable Justice Neville Owen, spoke of the uniqueness of a Law degree obtained from Notre Dame with its greater number of compulsory units than other institutions, assisting students to develop a broad understanding of the law. Justice Owen acknowledged the achievements of alumni in attendance including: Mrs Hayley Cormann (Class of 2005), incoming President of the WA Law Society who attended the event with her husband, The Honourable Mathias Cormann, Federal Finance Minister and Liberal Senator, and Mr Matthew Keogh MP (Class of 2004), Federal Labor Member for Burt.
