Alumni achievements Melissa Jaimes Class of 2013, Bachelor of Arts (Social Justice) International alumna at the General Assembly of the United Nations A journalist and social activist at heart, Melissa was the only Columbian journalist selected to participate in the United Nations RAF Journalism Fellowship 2017 which took place in New York City in September this year. Those in attendance observed the UN in action, had the opportunity to interview senior officials and exchange ideas with colleagues from around the world. Melissa focuses her writing on issues affecting Afro-descendant and indigenous communities, women’s rights and civic engagement. Emily Loughnan Class of 2009, Bachelor of Physiotherapy Hard work pays off with a big win in Hawaii In October this year, Emily competed in the Hawaiian Ironman World Championship and finished first in her 25-29 age group and first overall out of the female amateur triathletes. She completed the course in 9 hours and 44 minutes. This is a significant achievement for Emily, who works as a physiotherapist at Silas St Physio & Pilates in East Fremantle. Nathan Williamson Class of 2016, Bachelor of Health & Physical Education Living his dream as an AFL umpire Currently an AFL umpire based in Melbourne, Nathan worked his way through the Peel Football League and WAFL before making the AFL list. He umpired 22 games this year and was part of the squad for the Qualifying Final clash between Geelong and Richmond. Nathan loves the challenge of this environment and feels very fortunate to have the opportunity to fly around Australia and officiate at the highest level in front of tens of thousands of people. As well as his position with the AFL, Nathan teaches Health and Physical Education in Melbourne.
