Spotlight on Nursing SMARTCARE4 – CONTINUING TO GO FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH, THE POPULAR NETWORKING AND EDUCATIONAL SEMINAR SERIES WAS BACK BIGGER THAN EVER IN 2019. The School of Nursing & Midwifery, Fremantle and the Notre Dame Nursing Society hosted another successful SMARTcare seminar in August this year, this being the fourth in the series. The seminar has become a highly- anticipated event in the Notre Dame calendar, providing a biennial opportunity to network and hear from guest speakers. SMARTcare focuses on enhancing student learning and engagement through coupling SMART (Social Media Application/s for Research and Teaching) technology with health topics and pastoral care. This year’s sell-out event brought together a mix of students, alumni, School affiliates and health organisations to discuss the importance of career preparation, mentoring and networking. Fast-paced speaker sessions and an interactive panel were followed by an informal reception in the Drill Hall, providing an opportunity to network with industry representatives and experts. Alumni and upcoming graduates of the School were also given the opportunity to get a complimentary professional headshot taken. Dr Ben Hay, Acting Assistant Dean and Undergraduate Program Coordinator in the School of Nursing &Midwifery, was excited to be part of another successful SMARTcare seminar: “The award winning seminar series encourages a novel and unique approach to the responsible use of social media and mobile technology.” "It also provides an opportunity for alumni to continue to contribute and mentor other graduates and for ongoing leadership and engagement by industry experts and academics,” Dr Hay said. Keep an eye out for SMARTcare5 in 2021 when the popular series returns! Alumni Magazine – Page 12 N U R S I N G
