34 Notre Dame Postgraduate Guide Fremantle Campus Have you always had an interest in advocacy, problem solving and research? Are you a natural out-of-the-box thinker? Or, having completed your degree in another discipline, do you now wish to pursue a degree that adds critical thinking to your current skill set. A law degree not only prepares you for a career in the law profession. It is becoming increasingly desirable for a variety of non-legal positions. Notre Dame’s Law Degree has been designed by the best in the business – top judges, barristers, solicitors and legal academics – in the unique surrounds of Fremantle’s oldest court house, the Justice Owen Moot Court, dating back to 1884. While the program prepares students to enter the legal profession as competent, empathetic and objective practitioners, it can also be tailored for students who wish to work outside the law profession by offering a range of electives including human rights law, mental health law and insolvency. You will be supported and mentored every step of the way by legal academics who know your name and care about your professional and personal growth. WHY CHOOSE NOTRE DAME FOR YOUR POSTGRADUATE LAW DEGREE? ›› Our supportive study environment offers more face-to-face classes and practical focus. ›› Students who wish to work in non-legal professions are offered a wide variety of electives relevant to today’s business environment including Mining and Petroleum Law, Employment Law and Commercial Law. Notre Dame’s School of Law is directly supported by leading members of Western Australia’s legal profession and judiciary and offers an ethical and practical legal education of exceptional quality, with a very high graduate employment rate. MENTORING PROGRAM The School of Law’s Mentoring program, in collaboration with the Young Lawyers Committee of the Law Society of WA, aims to bridge the gap between law students and the legal profession by enabling students to become familiar with the everyday workings of the legal profession. By joining this program, students are associated with some of the finest barristers and solicitors in Western Australia and gain invaluable access, advice and support. THINKING BEYOND LETTER OF THE LAW An international alumni from the United Kingdom, Andrew was part of the Notre Dame team that defeated some of Australia’s top law schools to win the Australian Administrative Appeals Tribunal National Mooting competition in 2017. Now based in Perth, the commercial litigator says those who seek legal advice are often in positions of vulnerability and Notre Dame law students are encouraged to develop a compassionate approach to their practice. During his time at the University, Andrew was challenged to consider different perspectives and valued exploring new ideas through his study of Philosophy, Ethics and Theology.
