The Pre-Medicine Certificate is designed for students who are interested in applying for Medicine at Notre Dame upon the completion of their undergraduate degree. Spanning two core subjects, one experiential learning engagement and one elective, these additional subjects are studied concurrently with your undergraduate degree. Over the course of your studies, you will undertake subjects such as the sociology of health and medicine, Aboriginal people, social justice issues, as well as an elective in areas like behavioural science, biological science, counselling skills and more. You will be guided by the Pre-Medicine Certificate Coordinator who will help you with your journey through the Pre-Medicine Certificate program. Please Note : the completion of the Pre-Medicine Certificate does not guarantee you entry to the School of Medicine. However, should you meet the required GPA and GAMSAT scores, and successfully complete the Pre-Medicine Certificate program, you will automatically progress to the interview stage for postgraduate Medicine at Notre Dame’s Fremantle Campus. The Pre-Medicine Certificate is a flexible program which runs concurrently with your undergraduate degree, thus the following is an example. MEDICINE Professional Experience As with all our degrees, the Doctor of Medicine places a strong emphasis on practical training and experiential learning. Throughout the four years of your study you will undertake clinical placements in a variety of settings including aged care facilities, public and private hospitals and general practice. Your third and fourth years are clinically based and present the opportunity to explore the different disciplines of medicine such as paediatrics and surgery. You will be required to complete eight to nine week discipline-based rotations in a clinical setting, and further develop your research skills with a translational research project and/or clinical audit based in the hospital sector. There are rural/remote training opportunities and, for some students, placement with the Rural Clinical School in third-year.
