The Notre Dame Study Centre (NDSC) runs a number of programs and support services designed to assist you to achieve your potential. These include Academic Support, Access and Inclusion, Indigenous Student Support, Outreach, and the Tertiary Pathway Program. The NDSC provides an alternative entry pathway for new students, as well as academic support programs for current students who wish to further develop their academic capabilities. Tertiary pathways Academic support​ Throughout your degree, you will have access to a range of programs and opportunities to help you succeed at university. Most support is provided free of charge and is delivered via demand-driven workshops and individual appointments with a Learning Advisor. You can join workshops on topics designed to address the challenges common to university life, such as referencing and academic integrity, time management, academic essay writing, critical reading, note-taking, understanding feedback from assessments, and exam anxiety. From time to time the NDSC may provide additional courses to complement some programs, which may attract a fee. Support for English as an additional language If English is not your first language and you need additional assistance to manage your studies in English, you can make an appointment to see a Learning Advisor with specialised skills in English for Academic Purposes. You can make one-on-one appointments and/or join small study groups to build your skills. Outreach and research The NDSC conducts research and development in areas such as transition education, student engagement and wellbeing, and pathways education. Notre Dame is committed to increasing access to and participation in higher education, particularly for students from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, low socio-economic, or non-English speaking backgrounds. The NDSC undertakes ongoing research to assess the effectiveness of programs and services in order to ensure they meet the academic needs of all students. The TPP comprises a semester of study which, on successful completion, enables you to apply to move into a degree program in the Schools of Arts & Sciences, Business, Education, Nursing or Philosophy & Theology. In this program you will also complete Learning for University, a set of orientation sessions during Orientation Week to help you adjust to the university environment. Academic Writing, Communication Skills, Research Skills, Information Literacy, Essential Mathematics, Foundations of Human Biology (for students wishing to pursue Nursing) Entry into a Bachelor’s program at Notre Dame in the Schools of Nursing, Education, Business, Arts & Sciences, or Philosophy & Theology.
