Newsletter December 2023

Welcome to our December edition of the Nulungu Newsletter. December 2023 N U L U N G U N E W S L E T T E R Artwork by Maxine Charlie About the artwork Galgaruru janyba ngan-ga (Kookaburra sharing stories) by Maxine Charlie. The artwork represents the different Countries of the Kimberley: saltwater, ranges, desert and river. The bird is a kookaburra, travelling across the region, keeping stories alive and people connected. What a phenomenal year this has been with so many highs along with some lows. We have continued to contribute substantially to the interdisciplinary research that makes so much difference particularly for our Kimberley community, whilst simultaneously sharing in the collective grief at the outcome of the referendum for an Indigenous Voice to Parliament. As 2023 comes to a close, we would like to thank you all for your ongoing support of Nulungu Research Institute. It was wonderful to see so many of you at our annual events with record numbers at the NAIDOC Morning Tea and the Reconciliation Lecture. The Nulungu team continues to grow into the new year and we welcome new staff member Lachlan Carracher as the Operations Manager for the Climate Adaption Project. We look forward to sharing further research activities and events with you all in 2024 and wish you all the best for the festive season. Photo from the Nulungu Reconciliation Lecture 2023
