Nulungu researchers are interested in how the pandemic itself and the restrictions that followed impacted on social and cultural responsibilities for people across the region . We are also interested in how the local , regional and government responses to Covid - 19 in Kimberley communities and towns may have helped or made things harder . We want to consider the communication of public health messages by agencies during this time , and the implications of these for Kimberley Aboriginal people . What we are able to learn through this research will help to inform future actions , improving local , regional and government policies and strategies , to address and respond to future emergencies . Nearing completion , the final report will soon be released for the Department of Jobs , Tourism , Science and Innovation and the Chief Scientist of WA , as well as plain language versions for Aboriginal community organisations . Most of the Nulungu team are involved led by Kathryn Thorburn and Kate Golson . “ Special thanks to staff members Rosanna Angus from One Arm Point and Catherine Ridley from Gilley Sharpe for conducting extensive interviews with community members in their regions ’. Interviews have been shared by ABC Radio with Dr Kathryn Thorburn and Catherine Ridley , November 2021 : Social, cultural and economic impacts of COVID-19 pandemic for Aboriginal people in the Kimberley
