Pulse - School of Nursing & Midwifery Newsletter (16)

Welcome from the National Head As we start the new 2023 academic year and reflect on the one which has just finished, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support throughout the year. We have seen many achievements and successes in 2022, the highlight being the 10-year anniversary since we first enrolled students in the Graduate Diploma of Midwifery program. The year’s celebrations culminated in a glamorous gala dinner dance held in WA at the Ritz Carlton Ballroom. With great excitement, we hear about the expansion of midwifery at Notre Dame, extending to the Broome and Sydney campuses and a new program for midwives to re-enter the profession, the Graduate Diploma of Contemporary Midwifery. In July 2022, the first 145 students were enrolled in the new national Bachelor of Nursing program. Students can now enrol in the Bachelor of Nursing on any of the campuses and be taught theory and practical skills of the same curriculum and content. All of these programs will be delivered through strong partnerships with industry stakeholders, and I want to thank our partners; in particular, St John of God Healthcare, Ramsay Health and WA Country Health Service and the Nursing and Midwifery office, Department of Health, for their support in working with the School on new and innovative ways of delivering curriculum that will best prepare our graduates. With these newly accredited programs, Notre Dame now proudly delivers programs and qualifications at all levels, from a VET certificate to a Doctorate degree. We offer an EN Articulation program for Enrolled Nurses to become Registered Nurses, as well as graduate-entry midwifery programs, postgraduate qualifications for a range of advanced nursing specialisations, along with programs for those looking to re-enter the nursing and midwifery profession. More recently, we have expanded our suite of offerings in continuous professional development (CPD), ensuring that we are offering something for everyone, whether they are looking for micro modules or a full undergraduate or postgraduate program. It is an exciting 2023 and beyond for the School as we continue to enhance learning and teaching, innovation, research and skills development. I thank the dedicated and committed team in the School for their tireless work throughout the year. To all of the graduates of 2022– many of whom commenced their studies during the pandemic: well done on navigating through change and uncertainty. Your perseverance, resilience and strength is commendable and inspiring. Congratulations on your achievements. As you embark on a new chapter, I wish you a rewarding career as you serve others with care, compassion, and love. In the words of Mother Teresa, “The fruit of love is service, which is compassion in action.” Professor Karen Clark-Burg National Head, National School of Nursing and Midwifery 2 | NOTRE DAME NATIONAL SCHOOL OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY
