School of Law, Sydney Campus

The School of Law delivers a career-focused education that will provide you with a thorough knowledge of the legal areas required by the profession, as well as the practical skills required for legal practice. The program has a focus on developing ethical lawyers and is fully accredited by the New South Wales Legal Profession Admission Board. We have collaborated with judges, senior barristers and leading solicitors around Australia to design a curriculum that is both technically rigorous and relevant to the current Australian legal landscape.

Our smaller class sizes will allow you to explore and develop your skillset through public speaking, advocacy and alternative dispute resolution. You will also acquire the skills essential for commercial practice. Students are encouraged to participate in our Mentorship Program which will assist with your professional growth and the direction of your studies. Our mentors are judges, government lawyers, parliamentarians, senior barristers and partners from law firms both large and small.

• Work Integrated Learning

  You are encouraged to complete an internship where you will work in a law firm or with a barrister or judge or in the legal team of a corporation, financial institution, charity, church or non-profit organisation. This program gives you a solid foundation in law and practice, while professional work for clients builds critical skills.

• Mentoring/Academic Support

  Every Notre Dame Law student has the opportunity to be mentored by experienced lawyers (such as judges, Senior Counsel, partners of law firms and politicians) during their degree. This mentoring program means that you can develop professional connections at senior levels from Year One. Mentoring programs run for about six months, giving you the opportunity to be mentored by up to nine lawyers during your degree. You can discuss legal issues with your mentor and then join him or her during their duties in court or chambers.

• Facilities

  Named after one of the country’s most renowned legal experts – The Honourable Thomas Eyre Forrest Hughes AO QC – the university’s moot court provides a high level of professional and practical training for our law students. The moot court allows students to hone their litigation skills in a simulated court room environment, using innovative features which are identical to those found in our modern courts of law.
