Communications & Media graduate Holly Mitchell has embraced the changing nature of the media industry, as the creative mind behind award-winning fashion and lifestyle blog The Boyfriend Shirt.

“I love the freedom that comes with being a Freelancer but most of all, I take great pride in knowing I created my own business straight out of university,” Holly says.

“I always loved being creative, so I chose Communications and Media at Notre Dame as it gave me the opportunity to put that passion into a discipline and future career.”

Holly says it was the mentorship and support from Notre Dame’s academics that led her to networking and building contacts within Perth's creative industry, who she now works with on a daily basis.

“Whilst traditional jobs may be in journalism, marketing or media relations, people like myself are creating their own roles to personify their skills and work within lots of fields in order to meet the needs of a changing industry.

“The Core Curriculum made me challenge the way I think and gain new perspectives on familiar topics which has helped me stand out with employers.”

After taking out the title of 2015’s Best Fashion Blogger at the WA Fashion Awards, Holly continues to enjoy full-time freelance employment in digital marketing, event management and working with the media. Read more in our blog.
