Lachlan completed a Bachelor of Science - BS, Environmental Science and Biology in 2018 and at the time had aspirations to work in environmental rehabilitation.

"The highlight of studying at Notre Dame is the hands-on experience. The University takes students outside the classroom and into the lab or with industry partners so they can experience the real-world side of their studies," Lachlan said.

Having just completed an internship placement with Alcoa and the Shire of Murray, Lachlan said he felt more confident about the transition between University and working in the industry.

“The internship helped me understand that my degree opens a lot of different doors, and whilst mining is one of the biggest employers, there are a lot of different fields to explore.”

Lachlan said Notre Dame's values-based education encouraged him to pursue a career looking after future generations through environmental management, a pursuit that paid off when he gained a Junior Consultant position at Strategen JBS&G. Lachlan maintains that the core curriculum offered at Notre Dame have helped him to approach challenges from a different perspective.

"The three units of Philosophy, Ethics and Theology have opened my eyes to a broader perspective of life. There is so much going on around me and the Core Curriculum has helped me to critically analyse day-to-day settings and scenarios that I encounter," Lachlan says.
