Kate has spent the past decade working her way up through the ranks of Australian media. Having held senior sales and marketing roles at Nine Entertainment in Sydney and Perth, and becoming the youngest media Sales Director in WA at the age of 27, Kate has now progressed to the role of Chief Marketing Officer at Seven West Media WA, and she attributes her time at Dame for getting her started on this exciting journey.

"Marketing as a discipline is exciting, creative, analytical, and there’s so many great roles out there. I had a great education from Notre Dame that laid the foundation for a really interesting and fun career," Kate says.

One of the best things about the Bachelor of Marketing & Public Relations was the ability to follow trajectories that genuinely interested her, she added.

“Marketing as a degree is really diverse and gives you the chance to try out lots of different things, I was able to work out which parts I wanted to do and didn’t want to do. I wanted to be in marketing more than PR but having that skillset has certainly helped since leaving university.”

The skills that Kate developed at university have been invaluable in her daily working life.

Critical thinking is more important than ever. Things are rapidly changing in media and we are seeing a lot of change and transformation. You need to be able to understand a challenge or opportunity and be able to interpret it and make decisions quickly.

“The degree at Notre Dame was hands on and offered amazing placements in varied businesses, which gave me tangible skills I was able to use when I went into my first role in the big bad world!”
