“Choosing a topic you like and finding a supportive environment like Notre Dame makes for an easier and more enjoyable PhD experience,” says Doctor of Philosophy (Health Sciences) student Filippo.

The former professional soccer fitness coach made the move from Italy to Australia to pursue research on the movement economy in soccer players under different running conditions.

“My background as a soccer coach inspired me,” Filippo says. “I observed that the players I was coaching had different abilities when performing runs with directional changes and wanted to investigate more.”

Filippo says he chose Australia based on the nation’s great reputation in the sports science research field and the supportive supervisory panel he met at Notre Dame.

“At Notre Dame, I found very supportive supervisors and officers who made my whole application process really easy,” Filippo says. “It's a friendly environment to study in.”
