High-school maths teacher Michael Zaouk decided to upskill and cement his qualifications by enrolling in a Master of Mathematics Education at Notre Dame. The degree is part of a nested suite of mathematics programs designed to help address the shortage of maths teachers in schools around NSW.

“I chose to study at the University of Notre Dame’s Sydney Campus based on my own research and because of peer recommendation,” say Michael. “I wanted to study at an authentically Catholic university that values inclusivity and where students are nurtured while, at the same time, challenged to achieve their best. The teaching staff at Notre Dame are approachable and caring; treating each student as a human being rather than a number.”

Michael’s choice of course however, was informed by his love of mathematics and his passion for helping others understand the subject.

“The University is a highly respected and reputable tertiary institution for education-related courses and this definitely influenced my decision to study here. I wanted to further my career as a mathematics teacher, as well as deepen my understanding of mathematics, which is why I chose to enrol in the Master of Mathematics Education degree and take advantage of the relevance and breadth of the topics the degree covers. I look forward to continuing further study at Notre Dame.”
