APPLYING RESEARCH PRINCIPLES IN CLASS Dr Steven Males found his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) studies at Notre Dame allowed him to apply research principles of gathering data, analysing that data and then applying the findings to review policy and curriculum in his role as Head of the Primary School at Aquinas College. “Having the opportunity to influence a young learner and to help them on their pathway is something really rewarding,” says Dr Males. His research degree focussed on how a one-to-one laptop program could boost the literacy and numeracy outcomes on boys’ education in WA. Dr Males says Notre Dame had the ability to ensure it paid attention to the needs of postgraduate students. “Notre Dame has a great sense of community, it’s very personable and it makes you realise your value as a student,” Dr Males he adds. “My Notre Dame degree helps me to look at things with rigour and apply a more research-based approach to determine what matters when it comes to teaching and learning.” qilt.edu.au Overall satisfaction #1 in WA
