When you use AnyConnect VPN, you get a secure connection to Notre Dame network, applications, and resources from anywhere.
Please note, that while working off-campus, the University's standards, policies and procedures still apply.
How to set up AnyConnect VPN
To connect your device with AnyConnect VPN, follow the steps below in the how-to guide. Before starting, ensure that you have installed and set up Okta Verify on your smartphone.

- Select the Windows icon on the toolbar of your desktop screen
- In the search bar, enter ‘AnyConnect’
- Select ‘Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client’ from the drop-down menu
- Select one option from the drop-down menu depending on your usual campus location:
For Broadway Campus, Darlinghurst Campus or Clinical Schools, select ‘eastvpn.nd.edu.au’
For Broome Campus or Fremantle Campus, select ‘westvpn.nd.edu.au’ - Enter your Notre Dame email address and select ‘Next’
- Enter your current Notre Dame password and select ‘Verify’
- Select your preferred verification method:
‘Enter a code’: Open Okta Verify on your smartphone and enter the 6-digit code as displayed. This code will refresh and change every 30 seconds.
‘Get a push notification’: Okta Verify will automatically create a notification on your smartphone.
Open the notification and select ‘Yes, it’s me’.
‘Use Okta FastPass’: Okta Verify will automatically open on your laptop screen, and you will be prompted to use biometric security, a PIN or Picture Password. - Read the Code of Conduct statement and select ‘Accept’
- A pop-up notification will appear on your laptop confirming that you are connected to the VPN
- You are now ready to work off-site and securely access Notre Dame drives and applications.

It's important to use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) when accessing public Wi-Fi, whether at home or abroad. It's worth noting that free Wi-Fi provided by hotels or airports isn't secure. Before connecting to a public network, ensure that your anti-virus and malware protection is up to date on your personal devices.

Is there a timeout?
The AnyConnect VPN connection will timeout after 60 minutes of inactivity of traffic over the VPN.
