Frequently asked questions

  • Why would I want to access EAP?

You can see a psychologist through your EAP for a variety of reasons - both personal or work-related. You don’t have to be in crisis of have a mental health condition to see a psychologist and might just be wanting to get some strategies for better handling your stress, developing some healthy habits or developing a stronger relationship with your partner. Understanding what you would like help with will assist you in searching for a psychologist that has experience and training in working in that area. If you are not quite sure of your specific concern (e.g. you feel lost/empty/stuck), that is okay too – the psychologist can help you to explore this further.

  • What is the EAP team like?

The CFCH team is made up of senior psychologists with various areas of speciality. So, whether you are needing someone who specialises in couples counselling, work conflict, trauma or adjusting to change, you’ll be able to find someone matched to your area of need. Psychologists are normal people, just like you and are not mind readers! Psychologists are experts in human behaviour, and work with you to help you makes changes to the way you think, feel react or behave.

  • Isn’t EAP just for when someone is in crisis?

You don’t need to only reach out to access EAP when you are in crisis. EAP is available for anyone, whether they are feeling great and want to learn strategies for how to maintain wellbeing and peak performance, when they’re starting to feel the impacts of stress or “not feeling quite right” or when they are in crisis and are needing immediate support. Accessing EAP early and learning strategies for keeping your stress in check is what we call early intervention. It is so important for learning the foundational strategies to prevent potential mental health issues or stressors from getting to that crisis point. It is like any physical preventative health check!

  • How many counselling sessions can I access for myself or my family?

You will have access to six sessions available to you or your immediate family each year.
