1.3.5 Copyright activity

Now that you are a bit more familiar with copyright rules, test your knowledge with this activity.

Read each of the four scenarios carefully and select the most suitable answer from the options provided.

1. You get a book out of the library which is 100 pages long. You want to photocopy some pages to read for your assignment.

You are allowed to copy:

  1. 10 pages
  2. 50 pages
  3. 100 pages

2. You are giving a group presentation and you want to discuss and play a song you have purchased legally.

You are allowed to:

  1. Copy the song to your phone and email it to the rest of the group for them to listen to.
  2. Bring in the song and play it in your presentation, acknowledging the source.
  3. Upload it to YouTube and send the link to your class to listen to at home before your presentation.

3. You find a really funny cartoon on the internet that you want to use in your assignment.

You are allowed to:

  1. Copy and paste it in, but with no citation because it can be found on multiple websites.
  2. Check that the permissions on the website allow use for educational purposes, and then copy and paste the image in with a citation.
  3. Not use it at all in your assignment.

4. You want to show some clips from a copyrighted YouTube video in a tutorial presentation. You also want to record the tutorial so that your friends and family can give you feedback on your presentation afterwards.

You are allowed to:

  1. Use clips from the video in the tutorial and then post the tutorial recording on your blog to get feedback from the public.
  2. Use clips from the video in the tutorial and then upload the recording of your presentation to YouTube so all your family and friends can see it and give you feedback.
  3. Use clips from the video in the tutorial and then show the recorded presentation to your family and friends in a private setting.
