2.2.5 Referencing sources

Referencing is the practice of acknowledging sources used in a body of work. Referencing is essential for avoiding plagiarism and allows the reader to easily locate sources to validate information. Therefore, to maintain academic integrity, it is important for students to know how to reference sources.

To reference a source, you need to identify specific information about the source.

The specific information you need will vary depending on the type of source (book, journal article, website, multimedia, etc.) and referencing style you are using. See the Referencing Guide on the Library website for full details and examples.
