Academic freedom and freedom of speech

At The University of Notre Dame, the principles of academic freedom and freedom of speech are fundamental to our mission and culture. As an Australian University with a Catholic identity, we are committed to the pursuit of truth and knowledge in alignment with our Objects.

Our Policy: Protecting Academic Freedom and Freedom of Speech outlines our commitment to the protection of academic freedom and freedom of speech and applies to all University employees and students and to other members of the University community. It is based on the French Model Code for the Protection of Freedom of Speech and Academic Freedom in Australian Higher Education Providers.

The principle of academic freedom is also recognised in the University’s Statement: Academic Freedom.

If you have any queries about exercising academic freedom or freedom of speech, please contact the University Secretary by emailing undasecretariat@nd.edu.au.
