Advance HE

In support of excellence in teaching practice and leadership, the University of Notre Dame is an Advance HE member. Professor David Sadler, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, is the current Chair of the Advance HE Australasian Strategic Advisory Board.

The Advance HE vision is to ensure that higher education has a world-class reputation and is recognised for transforming lives, enriching society and developing the economy for the better. The aims are:

  • to create an inclusive culture that champions the continuous development of teaching, leadership and research; and
  • to promote professional practices in higher education that lead to improved outcomes for the benefit of students, staff and society.

Advance HE provides guidance on Teaching and Learning, Leadership, Governance, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in higher education internationally. Notre Dame’s institutional membership provides staff access to a range of benefits including grants and resources.

The Advance HE fellowship program supports Notre Dame’s academic promotion pathways and is recognised in the University’s Academic Excellence Framework. Fellowship provides individuals with internationally recognised acknowledgment of their practice, impact and leadership in teaching and learning, and grants holders the right to identify their expertise with approved post-nominals (AFHEA, FHEA, SFHEA, PFHEA).

An additional category of fellowship, accredited by Advance HE and available in Australia is the Associate Fellow (Indigenous Knowledges). The Associate Fellow (Indigenous Knowledges) pathway course is facilitated by Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and is a world-first fellowship which recognises the integration of Indigenous perspectives in higher education.
