Study support
The University provides study support to eligible employees to undertake an approved program of study that is directly related to their current position or career progression, and benefits both the University and the employee.
Study Support is available to employees employed on a full-time or part-time 0.5 FTE or greater basis and includes:
- Study Leave of up to 4 hours per week to attend and travel to classes and exams, complete assessments, or private study; and
- Financial Assistance for Study to assist with the payment of fees (via reimbursement) for up to 2 courses per year upon successful completion of an approved course at The University of Notre Dame Australia.
Employees should discuss with their manager their professional and career development goals as part of the Performance Development process, including their plans to undertake further education and to apply for study support. How to apply
Request for Study Support
Employees should discuss with their manager their career development goals and their plans to apply for study support at least 4 weeks prior to the commencement of their course.
To apply for study support employees must submit a manager approved Request for Study Support form to People and Culture prior to the commencement of their course.
Request for Financial Assistance for study
Financial assistance for study is available to employees studying at The University of Notre Dame Australia with an approved Request for Study Support prior to the commencement of the study period.
To apply for financial assistance for study employees must submit a Request for Financial Assistance for Study form to People and Culture once they have successfully completed their course.

How does the process work?
Step 1
- Employees discuss their plans to study at UNDA and determine their eligibility with their manager
- Fill out the Request for Study Support form and arrange for their manager to review and approve
- Enrol in a program/course
- Send evidence of enrolment with your Request for Study Support form to organisational.development@nd.edu.au prior to the commencement of the study period.
- If relevant, apply for Study Leave in PeopleSoft.
Step 2
- Upon successful completion of a UNDA course submit a Request for Financial Assistance for Study form to organisational.development@nd.edu.au within 2 months of receiving your results and attach confirmation of payment and evidence of successful completion (transcript)
- The Organisational Development team will confirm eligibility and the reimbursement amount and return the approved form to the employee (NB: they must have already submitted a Request for Study Support for this course)
- Employee submits a FlexiPurchase claim, attaching the approved form, to process the reimbursement.

How do I pay for my course/subjects?
Employees have the same option as any other student and can choose to pay their fees upfront or defer them to a HECS loan. If you are studying at UNDA head to the Tuition fees page for further details.

What do I present as proof of enrolment?
A statement of enrolment (subject enrolment) or student timetable (dowloadable at most institutions).

What do I present as proof of payment?
You will need to provide your receipt of payment if you paid for your student fees upfront or your Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN) if you have a HECS Loan.

How do I set up a FlexiPurchase claim?
Set up your FlexiPurchase cash profile by sending a profile request to flexipurchase@nd.edu.au. FlexiPurchase profile must be created prior to submitting your FlexiPurchase claim. Will I be reimbursed for the whole course if I enrol in the Graduate Diploma or Masters level courses in the foundational programs of strategic importance?
A person who articulates or who enrols in the higher level course (i.e. Grad Dip or Masters) can complete the first 4 subjects in the foundational component of the course with FULL reimbursement and thereafter apply to be partially reimbursed in the higher level program which is capped at $1000 per course.

How many courses/subjects can I study?
You can study and be reimbursed for 1 subject per semester.

Which programs are eligible for full reimbursement?
Employees enrolled in one of the following foundational programs, identified as strategically important to the University, qualify for full reimbursement of their course fees:
- Graduate Certificate in Aboriginal Studies
- Graduate Certificate in Business
- Graduate Certificate in Catholic Leadership
- Graduate Certificate in Health Professional Education
- Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching for Higher Education
- Graduate Certificate in Liberal Arts (Philosophy & Theology)
- Graduate Certificate in Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking
For all other courses offered by The University of Notre Dame Australia, employees may receive partial reimbursement of course fees, up to a maximum of $1,000 per semester.
