Experience the World
Students in the School of Arts and Sciences can add exciting short-term travel opportunities to their degree. Our Experience the World program offers students unique academic and practical learning experiences, and offers the chance to engage in extraordinary community service activities.
Participation in these programs will provide students with additional professional and life skills that will not only enrich their learning experience at university, but will make their degree more marketable and attractive on completion.
There are two key learning opportunities within our Experience the World program.
Caritas Immersion Programs
Travel to such developing nations as Uganda, Cambodia, India and Malawi to consider issues of sustainable development, empowerment, community engagement and social justice. This unique program has been forged by a partnership between Notre Dame and Caritas Australia. Students travel with Caritas and Notre Dame staff on intensive study trips which consider first hand the nature of developing communities in the world’s poorest regions.
Overseas Study Tours
Students of History, Politics and other disciplines can take advantage of Notre Dame’s overseas study tours and count the unit directly towards their degree major or minor.
Notre Dame’s own lecturers take students to such overseas locations as New York, Spain and Washington for up to four weeks where an intensive study program is conducted regarding the history, politics, language, culture and environment of the city or country being visited. This program is often done in partnership with overseas universities and provides an amazing opportunity to combine study and travel.
Our Experience the World study tours have been fortunate to receive the support of the Commonwealth’s Short-Term Mobility Program, providing eligible students with scholarships to cover the cost of related travel expenses.
The University of Notre Dame Australia has received more than $300,000 in Federal Government funding, through the New Colombo Plan, to support student learning and immersion experiences in the Indo-Pacific Region in 2017. This includes three semester-length Study Abroad placements with Notre Dame’s exchange partners in Asia.
