Don’t just take it from us – hear from some students who have studied overseas.
“In 2025, I studied for one semester at St Mary’s University in Twickenham, London. Getting the opportunity to study abroad was one of the best, if not the best, experience of my life, and I am very grateful to have had it. It’s an experience you can’t get another way, and it helped me learn so much about myself and the world around me. Moving abroad, even temporarily, gave me a lot of self-confidence and independence. Getting to study in another country has also helped me better understand what I hope to do in the future and has opened more doors for me. I have gained so much in my life thanks to studying abroad and I will always strongly encourage anyone who is thinking about applying to go for it, I promise you, you will not regret it!”

“I absolutely loved my time studying at Sophia University in Tokyo. Study abroad is nothing short of an incredible opportunity. It’s been such a pleasure getting to know another culture, meet interesting people, and explore all that Japan has to offer. Tokyo is a never-ending maze of things to discover and such an interesting place to call home even just for a little snippet of time. If you can feel even the tiniest part of yourself wanting to live abroad, apply for exchange”

Bachelor of Communications & Media /Bachelor of Arts student
“Studying aboard has been an amazing experience! It has always been my dream and through the support of the Notre Dame Study Aboard Office, I’ve been able to fulfil this dream. Living in a different country has given me a new perspective on my future degree (education) and helped me broaden my perspective. I have meet amazing people and made life-long friends. This has been a life-changing experience!”
Sydney Midgley
Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Primary) student
“Undertaking the International Exchange Program was a life-changing experience. While the administrative process can feel daunting at first, the International Office at Notre Dame is extremely helpful and responsive throughout. I would strongly recommend a semester abroad to any Notre Dame student: it is truly eye-opening, encourages comparative learning, builds genuine independence, and offers a highly social experience where lifelong friendships are made. It is a challenge that reaps many rewards.”

Bachelor of Laws student
“Ichigo-ichie, meaning “one time, one meeting”, or “a once in a lifetime encounter” sums up my three-week January 2026 exchange program at Sophia University in Japan. During this time, I was able to interact and build strong connections with students and staff from all over the world, experience the rush-hour trains, and ultimately experience first-hand an authentic Japanese university lifestyle. It is thanks to the support of the wonderful staff at UNDA International Office, as well as a grant I was privileged enough to receive from the DACKEP Program that made this opportunity possible. Support such as the DACKEP grant made a genuine difference and I hope that by sharing my experience, other students will feel encouraged to consider studying abroad, and to take advantage of the support available to them.

“My one-month Summer Program at Sogang University in South Korea was truly the most memorable experience of my life. I was able to meet people from all over the world, experience new cultures, and immerse myself fully in life in Seoul. Academically, I undertook a Beginner Korean Language course and an Introduction to Korean Politics, which gave me a fascinating insight into Korean history and society—very different from what we study in Australia. The HUG Buddy program also organised cultural events and excursions, including a visit to the Demilitarized zone on the border of North Korea, which helped me connect with Korean students and understand the country on a deeper level. I am extremely grateful for the DACKEP funding provided by Notre Dame, which allowed me to breathe easier and took a significant amount of financial stress off my travels.
