Graduate Certificate in Religious Education (NSW)

Are you a qualified teacher who would like to teach religious studies in NSW’s Catholic school system? If so, the Graduate Certificate in Religious Education at The University of Notre Dame Australia has been specifically created to meet your needs. This degree, approved by Sydney Catholic Schools, consists of two compulsory courses and two electives and can be completed in six months of full-time study. Since classes are held during school holidays, weekends and evenings, the program will appeal to full-time teachers with limited study time.

The Graduate Certificate in Religious Education from Notre Dame offers you the opportunity to achieve accreditation to teach Religious Education in a Catholic school as defined by Sydney Catholic Schools and the Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta.
During your studies, you will develop a profound understanding of the essential elements of Catholic belief – the mystery of salvation through Christ, the nature of Revelation and sacramental theology.

Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Religious Education, graduates will be able to:
- Articulate an advanced body of knowledge, with depth in the underlying principles and concepts in the discipline of theology as a basis for independent lifelong learning
- Critically analyse, consolidate, and synthesise knowledge
- Demonstrate technical skills associated with an advanced understanding of knowledge
- Exercise critical thinking and judgement for identifying and solving problems with intellectual independence
- Communicate and present an advanced exposition of theological knowledge and concepts; and
- Apply theological reflection, knowledge, and skills to demonstrate autonomy, well developed theoretical and practical judgement, and ethical responsibility.
