  • Biography

    Dr David Wong’s research revolves around topics in innovation and the diffusion of technology, service quality, electronic modes of delivery, and emotional value in the banking and higher education sectors. Dr Wong has been invited as a reviewer for many journals and conferences, including the Journal of Business Research, and as keynote speaker at a number of teaching and learning forums on Web 2.0, blended learning and other pedagogical issues. He has served on the editorial board of the Journal for Advancement of Marketing Education, and has been guest co-editor for Asia Pacific Journal of Marketing and Logistics (Special Issue on Marketing Education).

    Dr Wong is also respected for his expertise in Financial Services Marketing, and a regular contributor to the International Journal of Bank Marketing; with his recent research papers in the journal attracting over 200 citations to date. In 2013, he was awarded the honour of being one of the “Top 25 Australian Authors for 2013” by Emerald Publishing Group for his paper published in Marketing Intelligence and Planning. He has consulted in a large number commercial market research projects for both the profit and not-for-profit sectors, and is an Associate of the Australian Marketing Institute, a Certified Practising Marketer, and a Fellow of The Academy of Marketing Science.

  • Teaching areas

    Dr Wong has lectured in a wide variety of units at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has also lectured extensively in programs across various international locations including University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong, China), Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA) (Hong Kong, China), Marketing Institute of Singapore (Singapore), Curtin Singapore (Singapore), Curtin Sydney (Sydney, Australia), INTI Education Group - Laureate International Universities (Kuala Lumpur and Penang, Malaysia), and managed programs across locations such as Curtin Sarawak (Miri, East Malaysia), Charles Telfair Institute (Mauritius), Ukrida Penabur International (Jakarta, Indonesia), among others in the region.

  • Research expertise and supervision

    Dr Wong is passionate about research constructs pertaining to the use of high technology and consumer emotional engagement in the banking and higher education sectors.

    He is dedicated to the supervision of PhD students, and is focussed on publishing with his research students.

    Dr Wong had also been invited to act as external examiner for a number of PhDs, and have also supervised to completion over 10 research projects at the Masters by Research and Honours levels. His honours students have all successfully graduated with First Class Honours.

    • In 2014, Dr Wong was presented an award in recognition of his contribution to the AutismWest deployment of the new iPad based “Toby Playpad” for children with Autism.
    • In 2012, Dr Wong was invited to an awards ceremony hosted by the Deputy Comissioner of the W.A. Police and presented with an award in recognition of his pro bono work in research on promotional campaigns to reduce drink driving.
    • In 2012, Dr Wong received special thanks from the board of SIDS and KIDS W.A. Division for leading his student research team investigating advertising appeals in the public education of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
