  • Biography

I am a lecturer with over 20 years of teaching involvement. My TEPs at the UNDA are consistently high and reflect upon my delivery techniques. I have been the Student Liaison Academic for first year students since 2010. I am in every way a team player and have enjoyed teaching at the School of Nursing and Midwifery and representing it at various events such as career expos, information evenings and open days.

I have been a member of the School Teaching and Learning and Curriculum review committees since 2010 and have chaired the School TLC from Oct 2012 to Dec 2013. I have been a member of the University Teaching and Learning committee and Orientation Day Committee as well. During my tenure as chairperson for the school TLC, I oversaw the creation and implementation of various policies and plans.

    My previous experience:

    • Lecturer (0.5FTE), Health Sciences, Endeavour College of Natural Medicine,
    • Sessional Lecturer & Unit Coordinator, Molecular Genetics and Evolution, School of Biomedical Sciences, University of Notre Dame,
    • Tutor /Adjunct Lecturer Part-time Edith Cowan University, Department of Postgraduate Medicine,
    • Sn. Lecturer/ Administrator, Perth Academy of Natural Therapies,
    • Lecturer, Department of Physiology and Biochemistry, CMPH Medical College, Bombay, India.
  • Teaching areas

    Human Anatomy and Physiology
    Human Pathophysiology and Pharmacology

Senior Lecturer and Unit coordinator for
Human Anatomy and Physiology 1 (NH106),
Human Anatomy and Physiology 2 (NH107)
Principles of Pathophysiology and Pharmacology (NH105).

  • Research expertise and supervision

I initiated and am currently running a research study "A STUDY OF THE ENROLLED NURSE MENTORING PROGRAMME" which hopes to influence the transition of Enrolled Nurses into the Bachelor of Nursing programme. Ethics approval number 013108F.

After my masters in biochemistry, I worked as Jn Research Fellow on a project sponsored by the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre on the effects and treatments of Buthus tamulus envenomation (Indian red scorpion). The results were published in two editions of the Indian Journal of Medical Research and the Indian Heart Journal.

My research under Dr Erik Helmerhorst at the school of Biomedical Sciences was on the structure of Insulin Receptors in lactating mammary glands of rats. My research concluded that the Mol Wt of IRs in lactating mammary glands of rats was slightly lower than the IRs of liver and skeletal muscle. I was exposed to photo labelling of Insulin receptors using I-125 radioiodination of B-29 monoazidobenzoyl insulin, purification of cellular extracts such as plasma membranes using homogenisers, buffers and ultracentifugation. Separation techniques using sephadex gels, SDS polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, affinity chromatography and other procedures using spectrophotometry, autoradiography and RIA’s.

As a naturopath, I used my research expertise in conducting self sponsored clinical trials into the effects of various herbs on disease states. This resulted in four publications in the British Homoeopathic Journal.
