  • Biography

    Dr Carol Chunfeng Wang is a registered nurse, licensed acupuncturist, teaching and research academic in the School of Nursing, Midwifery, Health Sciences & Physiotherapy at UNDA. Carol is also a holistic practitioner with 28 years of clinical experience working in China, Singapore, and Australian healthcare systems. Carol currently supervises HDR students and leads a Holistic Health Research Clinic and an ongoing multicentred program: Tai Chi: Body & Mind Medicine, where her team are conducting holistic health-related clinical trials using non-pharmacological therapies (e.g., Tai Chi exercise, acupuncture, laser therapy, acupressure, and cupping) to improve health outcomes in chronic disease, especially chronic pain, mental health, and cancer.

    Committed to research in the field of integrative medicine, for which evidence is urgently required, Dr Wang's ability to connect with industry partners and build collaborations has led to tangible results in funding for scholarships, research projects and the enrolment of higher degrees by research students. Her capacity in offering nonpharmacological interventions and community-engaged programs such as Tai Chi is safe, inexpensive, and sustainable, which can be quickly transferred to community and self-practising to help alleviate the mental, physical, psychosocial, and economic burden that people with chronic disease enduring.

    Dr Wang is accepting PhD & MSc students with topics involving chronic disease management, cancer symptoms management, and mental health and physical wellbeing.  
    Carol also accepts national and international visiting scholars.

  • Research Expertise

    Led by Dr Wang, a research program in chronic disease, mental health and wellbeing supported through industry collaborations has attracted high-calibre, motivated researchers who are continuing to achieve great accomplishments as a team to maintain and enhance the program's quality.
    Carol and her multidisciplinary research team have expanded their sustained intensive connections with research collaborators in Australia, China, Singapore, the USA, and the UK, which have resulted in publications in peer-reviewed high impact journals and conference presentations nationally and internationally, as well as funded projects with a total award exceeding AUD$2.0 million research funding as a PI or AI since completion of her PhD in 2017.

    Carol’s research in chronic disease, mental wellbeing, and cancer care has remarkably impacted clinical guidelines and practice, training programs, textbooks, and the emergence of new care interventions. Her research has been adopted in several international and national practice guidelines, including the Accreditation Council of Trinidad & Tobago, and the US Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Her research has informed several handbooks/textbooks in nursing education, holistic health, and integrative medicine. Carol’s research has directly informed chronic disease self-management interventions for improving symptom outcomes such as pain, mental wellbeing, physical function, work productivity, and quality of life, including Tai Chi, acupressure, auricular therapy, acupuncture, and healing music.
    Dr Wang has been internationally acknowledged for being involved in many professional bodies that aim to advance health research and practice and improve health research integrity. She is the Vice President of the Western Australian Chinese Scientists Association (WACSA), Australia Chapter Leader of the American Holistic Nurses Association, academic advisor of the Ramsay Health Care WA and SA Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) and the Reference Group advisor of Chinese Medicine Board Australia, a member of the IASP Pain Research Forum, a member of Solaris Collaborative Research Team the Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association (AACMA), the Australian Chinese Health Professionals Association (ACHPA), the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, and the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia.
    Carol’s exceptional professional leadership in developing editorial and peer-review policies and procedures has also been internationally recognised. She is an Academic Editor for PLUS ONE and Evidence-Based Complement Alternat Medicine, the Vice Editor in Chief for the Journal of TMR Integrative Nursing, and an Editorial committee member for the Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science.
