School of Medicine, Fremantle Campus
The School of Medicine offers a Doctor of Medicine (MD) program, Master’s of Paramedicine, Master’s of Bioethics and Graduate Certificates, Diploma’s and Master’s in Health Professional Education, Health Leadership and Health and Medical Sciences based at our Fremantle campus.
The School embraces its responsibility to make a contribution to improving healthcare outcomes for all Australians. This commitment includes developing a better understanding of the needs of indigenous Australians, providing opportunities for students to experience rural and remote medicine and a curriculum which embeds bioethics, advocacy and social justice.
The Doctor of Medicine (MD) program is accredited by the Australian Medical Council of Australia. Key features include a focus on small group teaching and problem-based learning, combined with rich clinical experiences across the entire program. There are embedded learning experiences in research, personal and professional development, population and preventive health and Aboriginal Health teaching across all aspects of the program.
The Master of Paramedicine is in the final stages of accreditation with the Paramedicine Accreditation Council, with approval to deliver the program from 2025. Key features include online learning to support busy postgraduate students with a on campus clinical skills week each semester prior to work integrated learning.

Work Integrated Learning
Clinical placements are embedded in the MD program and take place in hospitals, general practices, and community settings. In the last two years of the Doctor of Medicine Program students complete discipline-based rotations across a variety of settings. There is also the opportunity for selected students to participate in the Rural Clinical School of WA (RCSWA).
Paramedicine Work Integrated Learning
Clinical placements are embedded in each semester of full time study, with students completing 600 hours across the two year full time program. Placements occur across several areas of paramedic practice including event management, patient transport, urgent care | primary care, hospital departments, and emergency service ambulances. -
Mentoring/Academic Support
The MD program supports students’ personal and professional development in preparation for their transition to the medical profession. Mentors are assigned from the outset of the program through to the final clinical rotation in order to help students get the most from their studies. In addition, Student Success helps students formulate their goals and develop the skills and confidence needed to attain them. Student Success offers a range of courses and programs, plus support for students with special educational requirements. Aboriginal medical students are supported by the Indigenous Health and Medicine Team and the Manjaree Student Space.

Facilities
Operating from four buildings in Henry Street, School of Medicine facilities include a 200-seat lecture theatre, simulated clinic rooms, a simulated hospital ward, clinical and procedural skills facilities and small Problem Based Learning (PBL) tutorial rooms, all equipped with networked audio-visual equipment.
Paramedicine: On campus students learn patient assessment and management using the latest paramedicine equipment, delivered by clinical paramedic academics and key industry groups
