  • Biography

Gerard Hoyne joined Notre Dame in 2009 and was appointed the Associate Dean of Research in the School of Health Sciences until 2020 and was appointed to the position of  Associate Dean of Research for the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing, Midwifery and Health Sciences in 2021. Gerard completed his BSc(Hons) and PhD at The University of Western Australia and has previously worked at Imperial College in London, the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom and the Australian National University within the field of immunology. His research work has investigated how the immune system regulates immune responses to self and foreign proteins. This has important implications in the development of autoimmune diseases such as allergies and diabetes.

He has gained research funding both in Australia and overseas over the last 20 years. He has co-authored over 70 scientific manuscripts and has presented his work at national and international scientific conferences. He was a co-founding scientist of a biotechnology company that was established in Cambridge in the UK and is a named inventor on eight international patents that have been granted.
