  • Biography

    Dr Alan McCarthy is a Lecturer and the Discipline Head of Mathematics in the School of Arts and Sciences, The University of Notre Dame Australia (Sydney Campus).

    Alan is originally from Ireland and was awarded his PhD from University College Cork. He moved to Sydney in 2014 to further pursue his research and was appointed to his current position in Notre Dame in 2017.

    His research interests lie in the area of differential and discrete geometry.

  • Research interests and current projects:

    Dr McCarthy's research interests lie in the area of differential and discrete geometry.
    He is currently a member of a project looking at the discretisation of Projective Minimal Surface theory as well as investigating the deformation theory of flat tori in the 3-sphere.
    He is also part of a group looking at mathematical education in high schools and in particular the retraining of out-of-field mathematics teachers.
